Throughout the years, Kratom leaves have been used in herbal medicine to heal certain conditions thanks to their opioid properties and stimulant-like effects.

Depending on where they grow and other unique properties, different Kratom strains are available on the market.

The 3 Main Types of Kratom

There are several different types of Kratom – with new ones popping up now and then. However, it is essential to note that most of these strains are identified based on the color of the Kratom leaf vein and also the region of origin.

That said, the three most popular Kratom strains based on color include the White Vein Kratom, Green Vein Kratom, and the Red Vein Kratom.

The resulting Kratom powder from each of the three varieties has unique physiological and physical characteristics due to the different alkaloid levels.

These varieties are then available in numerous subtypes or what we usually refer to as strains, achieved by mixing different portions of the three main varieties.

White Vein Kratom

Associated with increased alertness and energy, White Vein Kratom is harvested from the leaves of a young Kratom plant while the veins are still white.

Upon harvesting, the younger white-veined Kratom leaves are then dried indoors to prevent even the tiniest speck of light from falling on them.

According to many Kratomites, the white vein type of Kratom is unusually potent and may be a bit hard on beginners.

The high potency is because of the early picking of the young Kratom leaves, which contain high levels of mitragynine compared to the green and red vein types (except for Maeng Da).

Green Vein Kratom

Popularly known for its mild energizing properties, Green Vein Kratom is the middle ground between the red vein and white vein Kratom.

This particular type of Kratom strain is harvested in the middle stages of a Kratom plant's life cycle when the leaves are much darker in color. The leaves are then dried indoors – in an air-conditioned room and then shifted outdoors to finish the drying process under direct sunlight.

According to most Kratom users, green veins are not as strong and powerful as the white counterparts. However, they are considered an excellent stimulant and energy booster.

Furthermore, green veins can be mixed with the white or red veins to fashion a more refined flavor with unique properties that give the user better mental clarity.

Red Vein Kratom

Red Vein Kratom is undoubtedly one of the most popular Kratom strains on the market, probably because of its analgesic and mild sedative effects.

Unlike the White and Green varieties, Red Vein Kratom comes from matured Kratom leaves with a high concentration of 7-mitragynine. The leaves are then dried under UV light or direct sunlight to ensure that they are free from moisture.

Sometimes during the drying process, the leaves may be fermented to create Bentuangie Kratom, a variety of red vein Kratom with a varying alkaloid composition and a spectrum of unique effects.

According to Kratom connoisseurs, the Red Vein Kratom varieties are friendlier than the White and Green veins. This is because their impact is slower and produces mild effects on patients.

What Are The Other Types And Varieties Of Kratom?

As we've seen above, the three main Kratom strains are categorized based on the different effects on the user. However, take note that there are also different Kratom varieties within each category from these three main categories.

Upon mixing these strains together, they are further used to create several other "strains." The newly formed strains present a variation of one of the three popular strains. The result for this is a blend with varying alkaloid concentrations and distinct properties such as increased potency.

Some of these strains are named based on the region of origin. We'll look at some great examples in this write-up, including Thai Kratom, which originates from Thailand, and Indo Kratom, sourced from Indonesia.

With that in mind, let's quickly look at the other varieties of Kratom.

Maeng Da Kratom

As one of the most potent and high-quality Kratom strains, Maeng Da Kratom traces its roots to Thailand, where the weather conditions favor its growth. However, it is also in other Southeast Asia regions such as Indonesia and Malaysia.

Just like other Kratom strains, this exotic-sounding strain comes in three varieties. That is, White Maeng Da, Green Maeng Da, and Red Maeng Da – all of which are named depending on the color of its Kratom leaf vein.

But what distinguishes Maeng Da Kratom from other strains? Unlike other strains, Maeng Da Kratom is created using a unique processing method known as "grafting."

In this unique horticultural technique, scientists select plant tissues with unique characteristics. The selected Kratom plant tissues then join together to continue their growth and breed a new strain with varying qualities.

In simple terms, the whole grafting process involves making a wound in one of the plants – say a Red vein Kratom plant (that excel in alkaloid-rich soils), and then inserting a bud or scion of the Green Vein plant (which has similar qualities as the Red Vein Kratom) into the already created wound so that each of the plant's tissue can grow together.

Notably, Maeng Da Kratom emphasizes quality. That said, Maeng Da is available in various forms. For example, you can get it in the form of capsules or powder form.

Bali Kratom

Bali Kratom is another popular Kratom strain in the market that grows naturally in various Southeast Asia regions. And as the name suggests, Bali Kratom traces its origins from the Island of Bali in Indonesia – hence the name Bali Kratom.

The Bali Kratom strain, just like other strains grown in the Southeast Asia region, is available in red, green, and white varieties. The different colors define the harvesting point of the leaves.

Just like you'd expect, Bali Kratom is highly potent and versatile. It's also one of the safest and easily available strains of Kratom, with a broad blend of properties and revitalizing effects that match those of the island it's named after.

Bali Kratom leaves are larger than average leaves and can be chewed or consumed in the form of powder or as Kratom capsules. Users can also brew a delicious cup of Kratom tea using Kratom powder or leaf.

Bentuangie Kratom

Native to the Indonesian region of Bentuangie, Bentuangie Kratom is a relatively new entrant into the Kratom market. The strain is quickly becoming the strain of choice thanks to its soothing and refreshing aromas that make it enjoyable to consume.

But what makes Bentuangie Kratom so enticing and unique compared to other Red Veined Kratom varieties? Well, the main difference is in the processing. Unlike other strains, Bentuangie Kratom doesn't go through the typical drying process that involves drying the leaves under the sun or UV light.

Instead, the undried Kratom leaves are first stored in bags that trap moisture and warmth. This process enhances the fermentation of the Kratom leaves, which in turn raises the concentration of 7-hydroxymitragynine.

Once the fermentation process is over, the now fermented leaves are sundried and ground into powder. The result of this entire process gives an entirely new strain of Kratom known as Bentuangie Kratom.

The strain is offered in various forms. You can get it in the form of powder or even capsules. You can also brew the leaves or the powder to prepare a soothing cup of Bentuangie Kratom tea.

Borneo Kratom

Considered one of the strongest Kratom varieties available on the market, Borneo Kratom is another popular Kratom strain. Available in green, red, and white vein varieties, white Borneo is more potent and versatile in its use.

So, what makes Borneo Kratom different from other strains? Believe it or not, Borneo Kratom could help save the environment. Borneo, the island from which this Kratom strain originates, is responsible for almost 50% of the world's tropical timber acquisition, putting it at a risk of facing deforestation.

Additionally, the island has also become a victim of palm oil farming, which involves releasing substantial amounts of carbon dioxide, damaging its local ecosystems. Palm oil farming is known to be a primary factor influencing deforestation in various parts of the world. The white vein Borneo Kratom production can help reduce deforestation and other environmental degradation activities on the island.

The small-scale Borneo Kratom farmers on the island practice ethical and sustainable agriculture primarily based on natural cultivation. They do not clear acres of land for mass-yield plantations as they allow this Kratom strain to grow naturally within the natural rainforest vegetation

Borneo Kratom is available in powder and capsule form. Thus, you can consume it easily and even brew it in your morning coffee to get that early morning boost to help you thrive throughout the day. Take note that there is an Ultra Borneo Kratom variety that is stronger than white Borneo in powder and capsule form.

Sumatra Kratom

Sourced from the large Indonesian island of Sumatra, Sumatra Kratom is diverse as it is available in red, green, and white vein strains. The color of the strain determines its use and properties.

However, it is vital to note that green Sumatra brings about a combination of red and white Sumatra Kratom effects and it is not naturally grown on the Indonesian island. As a result, buyers must exercise extreme caution when buying green Sumatra by ensuring they buy from a reputable Kratom vendor.

Sumatra Kratom is available in powder and capsule form. You can also find Sumatra Kratom shots, which are ideal for those who dislike Kratom's bitter taste. Like Bali Kratom, this strain is relatively powerful, meaning users should use only a small quantity per dose.

Thai Kratom

As the name implies, Thai Kratom comes from Thailand. The Kratom tree grows in its warm and tropical climate, among its naturally growing rainforests where there are high alkaloids concentrations. Thus, it is one of the most potent Kratom strains available with long-lasting effects.

This strain is available in red, green, and white and their specific effects vary based on their vein color at the center of the leaves. However, green and red vein Thai Kratom is more popular compared to its white vein counterpart. Primarily, this is because white Thai Kratom has lesser analgesic properties than red and green Thai Kratom.

There are various ways that you can consume Thai Kratom. Whether you prefer it in powder form, as capsules, as a liquid extract, tincture, or even as leaves, they are all available on the market. You may also prefer taking it as a hot cup of tea early in the morning to get your day going.

Yellow vein Kratom

Although there are three main recognized Kratom strains on the market, a new type of Kratom strain has recently taken over the Kratom market. According to many enthusiasts, yellow vein Kratom is the best quality Kratom with more well-rounded benefits and more prolonged effects.

Users of yellow vein Kratom compare its properties and effects to those of the green Malay Kratom strain. There are several claims regarding the origins of yellow vein Kratom. One is that the leaves used to make yellow vein Kratom are picked in the later lifespan stages of the Mitragyna speciosa tree. The tree's extended existence gives its leaves a yellow color, giving rise to the yellow vein Kratom.

Another possible source of this type of Kratom is that the red, green, and white vein Kratom strains are blended together and then undergo a fermentation process to produce the yellow coloration. Others believe that this kind of Kratom comes from a unique drying process of the red vein Kratom for a longer duration.

There are no credible sources that substantiate the origin of yellow vein Kratom. However, more and more suppliers are increasingly manufacturing and selling it. If you enjoy exploring new and exciting Kratom strains, then you should definitely give this one a try. However, be careful that you purchase it from a reliable supplier.
